FAQs from the workbook

Who is eligible for LASIK?

Adults aged 18 or older with glasses power that has been stable for at least a year, healthy corneas of adequate thickness and no active eye disease are often suitable. A pre-LASIK evaluation with corneal mapping, thickness measurement and a retina check decides whether LASIK, PRK or another option is safest for your eyes.

Is LASIK painful?

The eyes are numbed with drops, so most people feel pressure rather than pain during LASIK. An eyelid holder keeps the eye open and the laser itself takes seconds to a few minutes. Mild burning, watering or light sensitivity for a few hours afterwards is common and settles with rest and the prescribed drops.

How long does LASIK take?

The laser treatment takes only a few minutes per eye. On the day of surgery, plan to spend about two to three hours at the hospital, including final checks, numbing drops, the procedure and a short rest. You will need someone to take you home, and a check-up is usually done the next day.

When can I go back to work after LASIK?

Many people return to desk work within two to three days, depending on comfort and the doctor's advice at the first check-up. Take frequent screen breaks in the first week. Avoid dusty sites, swimming, eye makeup and contact sports for the period advised, and keep using the drops exactly as prescribed.

What if my cornea is too thin for LASIK?

If your cornea is too thin or irregular for LASIK, a surface treatment such as PRK may be safer because no flap is made. Lens-based options such as ICL are considered only where offered and suitable [ONLY IF OFFERED]. The pre-LASIK evaluation measures your cornea and tells you which options are appropriate.

Is LASIK permanent?

LASIK permanently reshapes the cornea, but the eye can still change over time. Most people need reading glasses after about 40 because of presbyopia, an age-related change that LASIK does not prevent. A small number may need an enhancement if some power returns. Your surgeon will explain what to expect for your age and power.

How much does LASIK cost at Jain Eye Hospital?

LASIK fees depend on the procedure and are listed for both eyes in the fee table on this page, along with what is included. For a fuller explanation of how LASIK is priced in Delhi, see the pricing guide linked in the fees section. Your final fee is confirmed in writing after the pre-LASIK tests.

Does insurance cover LASIK?

Most health insurance policies treat LASIK as a cosmetic procedure and do not cover it, though some policies cover it above a certain glasses power. Check your policy wording or ask our insurance desk to review it. Payment options available at the hospital are explained at the billing counter before you book a surgery date.
